October ABS Challenge - a Forest Nap

9¼ x 15 in. 23.5 x 38 cm. bodycolor on vellum
A Hedgehog in a Landscape, 1643-51

by Giovanna Garzoni
I thought this month's inspiration painting was just cuddly:  warm soft colors and the cutest little hedgehog!  I always love nature inspiration so I knew this would be fun.

I actually made two pieces this time.  First up are a pair of earrings made from lampwork beads I bought from Lisa Niven Kelly ages ago.  They're a great shade of beige with fine silver dots.  The rice pearls are a rich chocolate shade.

Acorn Lights
The main challenge piece is my Forest Nap necklace made using the cutest little detailed owl bead from Tree Wings Studio.

For the pendant I took two brass stampings of oak leaves and acorns and wired them back to back.  I added some gilder paste to give them a little more patina... then wired the cute napping owl to the top.  I love this little guy!

I'm really drawn to the richness and depths of the browns in these. And that serene look of the owl is precious!

Thank you all so much! This was the easiest challenge for me.. maybe because of the subject matter and that darn hedgehog's cuteness.

The hedge hog is adorable too. My Oldest granddaughter Jessy got a groundhog for her 15th birthday, her name is Olive:)

Beautiful! I love your subtle coordination between the necklace and earrings with the rich, chocolaty-brown pearls and the echo of the acorn motif. Very Nice!

And of course, your owl is adorable. Poor little thing fell off his branch, though he looks quite happy where he is. ;-)

Beautiful. I also used one of Rebekah's beads for my ABS piece! She is a talented lady.
